Young Parents Tenancy Support Program
SHAC and The Womens Centre FNQ have partnered to deliver the Young Parents Tenancy Support Program. Tailored intensive case managed support will be provided to young parents (aged 16 - 25) from the Cairns Local Government Area to, with a focus on:
ensuring young parents have skills and capacity to sustain a social housing tenancy;
stabilising parenting, health and well-being outcomes such as child health and wellbeing needs, education, behavioural or other developmental needs;
early intervention and holistic support to prevent the complex range of issues that young at-risk parents face, before they escalate or become deeply entrenched;
connecting and working with other services to meet the young families’ social and cultural needs and help them to move towards social and economic independence, including supporting them to engage in education, training and employment;
assisting young families to build parenting skills and confidence in caring for their babies and children including helping to establish and maintain an emotional bond, and to develop and maintain living skills and effective routines; and
assisting young parents with engagement with different support services, connecting with relevant community agencies to build a robust safety and support network for young parents and their children.
