Young Parents Tenancy Support Program
SHAC and The Womens Centre FNQ have partnered to deliver the Young Parents Tenancy Support Program, providing tailored intensive case management for young parents (16-25) in Cairns. The program focuses on:
Building skills to sustain tenancies;
Improving health and well-being outcomes for parents and children;
Supporting children’s education, behavioral, and developmental needs;
Connecting families to social and cultural supports;
Helping parents achieve social and economic independence through education, training, and employment;
Enhancing parenting skills and confidence;
Linking families with services to create a strong support network; and
Offering early intervention to address challenges faced by at-risk young parents.
Eligibility for the Program
Young Parents who are eligible for the Program must be aged between 16 to 25, who:
Classifies as a ‘family’ according to the Homelessness Program Guidelines (this can include a young person that is currently pregnant); and
Residing in QLD social or community housing, or are homeless/at risk of homelessness and eligible for QLD social housing; and
Have no known Services working with them that could assist with looking for housing (i.e. not working with another homelessness service or family support program); and
Currently reside in the Cairns Local Government Area.
